Globe trekker
Paris 2 (Discovery 2007)

As part of the on-going Globe trekker series, it's time for an update on Paris.  A few years ago Justine visited the city, but there's always something new.

We spent a very full eight days in Paris in October 2006 filming with a relatively new presenter, the lovely Adela Ucar (she's Spanish).

As with all travel programmes, they are fraught with tight travel schedules.  Through no fault of the production office, people are never available in the same place at the same time. It's nothing unusual to have to travel a couple of hours across the city, only to return to where we first started to continue an earlier story! Often as not it's a very small crew, and if it wasn't for hiring a local driver for the crew vehicle, we wouldn't stand a chance.

Like all cities, it's a very noisy environment - inside and out. In Paris, there's a lot of roads paved with cobbled stones - so the traffic noise could be horrendous at time. A few pieces to camera on motorbikes, and in noisy cars was par to the course - and the Eiffel Tower was quite windy at times! So long as the dialogue was clear, I considered the background noise acceptable - Ian Mann the cameraman was always on hand to illustrate where the noise was coming from!

The Paris shoot required all the usual food stories, travel tips, places to go, art and culture.  No shortage of these in Paris, and - unfortunately for the crew - at all times of the day!  Nevertheless, we got most of it done, and didn't fall out with each other in the process!
